Information related to clinical rotations that are away from Johns Hopkins Hospital
Over the years, residents have voiced concerns that they feel at a disadvantage when applying for post-graduate jobs because they have no idea about what to request or expect in terms of salary, benefits, scheduling, infrastructural needs, personnel-support, or contract negotiations. In addition, they feel that they are unfamiliar with many of the other business aspects of practice such as marketing.
To address this issue, we are creating an interdisciplinary (i.e. where business and medicine intersect) inquiry-based learning activity during which residents and fellows will define a set of expectations of salary, benefit, schedule, infrastructure, equipment and personnel-support for their first job. Even if they do not achieve all these goals in their first employment package, at least they would come to the negotiations with a rational starting point.Resources related to teaching and mentoring with a focus on helping your fellow residents.
