Rho Kinase Inhibitors

In 2017, the FDA approved another once a day glaucoma drop called netarsudil (Rhopressa). It has 3 mechanisms of action to lower the pressure by increasing outflow and reducing the production of fluid in the eye. It is about as effective as timolol, but it has no known side effects to the body. There are a few side effects of the medicine, but they are localized to the eye and not vision threatening. These include the potential for increased redness, small bleeding spots overlying the white of the eye (on conjunctiva), and little deposits on the cornea called “verticillata.” These deposits don’t impact vision and will go away once the medication is stopped.
